MWUN commends NIMASA DG, others for prompt intervention to release kidnapped members

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has commended efforts of Dr. Bashir Jamoh, the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), as well as other well-meaning Nigerians, in facilitating the release of five of its members who were kidnapped on the Kula-Abonema waterways in Rivers State.

President General of the Union, Prince Adewale Adeyanju, expressed the appreciation in a statement on Sunday while announcing to the public the good news of the release of five of the abducted members.

He said: “We also wish to thank all well-meaning Nigerians and stakeholders for standing with us in our hour of need and pain.

“Equally, we deeply appreciate the critical and central role played by the Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency – Dr. Bashir Jamoh, for his immediate and decisive action of deploying the awesome arsenal of the deep blue project to use in securing the release of our kidnapped members as well as other Nigerians.”

Adeyanju  used the occasion to urge NIMASA to continue to provide  safety on our water ways and especially so in the riverine and creeks which seem to be more prone and vulnerable to pirate attacks.

He pledged the Union’s willingness to continue to partner and collaborate in the onerous task of ensuring safety on the nation’s water ways.
