Coronavirus Malady: MWUN shuts national secretariat for safety purposes

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria(MWUN) has shut down its National Secretariat in Lagos in compliance with the Federal Government’s directive for social distancing, in order to curtail the spread of the COVID- 19 pandemic.

This is contained in a statement signed by the President General(PG), Prince Adewale Adeyanju, rising from a combined meeting of the Union’s National Administrative Council (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) on Tuesday.

The statement reads that:” … We note the Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered a lock down of movement of people to reduce contact and spread of the virus. Consequently, social gathering of more than twenty people at a time has been banned.

“In cognizance of government’s directive to restrict movement of people and foods, and to further safeguard the lives of our members, we announce the closure of our national secretariat and its annex offices for the first instance of two weeks starting from March 25, 2020. However, skeletal services will still be offered the general public. “

The PG also announced the indefinite postponement of its National Executive Council (NAC) meeting earlier scheduled for Friday March 27, 2020.

He expresses the Union’s regret for inconveniences the situation/ decisions may cause.
