Admiral Gbassa tasks gallant troops on sustained discipline after Operation Save Haven assignment

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jason Gbassa, has tasked gallant personnel of the Nigerian Navy, who were earlier inducted into the maritime component of Operation Save Haven for internal security duties, to ensure they sustain discipline, a key quality that enabled them excel on their assignment.

Appreciating the troops at a reception in their honour on Monday at the NNS Beecroft Parade Ground, Admiral Gbassa said the personnel exhibited exceptional gallantry in the course of their duties during the internal security operations, therefore, the commendations from the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo.

The Flag Officer Commanding emphasized that operation SAVE HAVEN is a military task force established in 2010 to maintain peace in Plateau State. The Task Force, he said, has its operational command in Jos and is a multi-task force in charge of security of lives and properties in Plateau, Bauchi, and parts of Southern Kaduna.

He applauded the troops that they had been exposed to different scenario where their lives were threatened in the past six months and yet they delivered on the mandate to protect lives and properties.

His words: “The experiences of the personnel in line of duties cannot be spoken in words, but what you sacrificed for the nation is highly appreciated and that is why this reception is being organized in your honour.”

He added that “you have done your bit regarding operation SAVE HAVEN, therefore it is expected that you undergo a post-traumatic stress management programme that will take you for a week and thereafter you will be given a disembarkation leave for 2 weeks to reunite with your loved ones and then be deployed for another national assignment.”

He used the opportunity to observe a minute silence to remember the fallen heroes across the country, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The Admiral beseeched Nigerians not to disseminate negative narratives about the situation in Nigeria, because of some security concerns.

He therefore appealed to the good people of Nigeria to open their hearts devoid of any sentiments and give the security agencies maximum cooperation in the fight against insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other sundry crimes.
